Best vampire entertainment of 2008

Announcing the Golden Globes of the vampire world--the Suburban Vampire Best Vampire Entertainment of 2008 poll. I've listed vampire TV shows and movies that were new in 2008, and you can pick as many of your favorites as you want. I've also put "Vampire Fiction" as an option if your favorite fanged entertainment came in the form of books. If you'd like to mention which 2008 book release you liked most, feel free to add a comment in my post Best of 2008: Vampire fiction.

I've also included "Other" on the poll in case your favorite isn't listed. There were some smaller 2008 movies with very limited releases or releases outside the US (for example, Blood: The Last Vampire). If a medium other than TV, movies, or books provided the top 2008 vampire entertainment, in your opinion, feel free to share with others.

Personally, I'd like to vote for the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead trailer, but I'll leave that for a future poll involving the most anticipated 2009 releases. Keep that in mind before marking "Other" for a trailer.

Most importantly, have fun with the poll. I'll leave voting open until 11:59 PST on New Year's Eve.
(SEE THE FULL POLL RESULTS: "Twilight & Moonlight top Best 2008 Vampire Entertainment poll.")

Thanks for including Moonlight in your poll. Mick St.John and Josef Kostan are hip and classic vamps, cancelled before their time.

I still love and miss Moonlight so much. Thanks for the poll

Thanks for including Moonlight in your poll. Moonlight was the total package. Mystery, suspense, the supernatural, romance, action. And the cast had a great chemistry together. They made this characters real.

You're welcome, Moonlight fans.

I also miss Moonlight. I like True Blood, but Mick and Beth had a wonderful chemistry, seldom encountered.

I really wish it was allowed to blossom.

I loved Moonlight more than anything I have ever watched, and appreciate that it is included in the vote. Although I very much like True Blood, and watched it religiously every Sunday night, it just isn't Moonlight.

Hi Catherine, I hope you won't feel overwhelmed by the Moonlight fans' presence on your board. We do have several clubs that we hang out and share everything Moonlight. "A giant thrill ride that never ends..." I don't even know who these "anonymous" folks are, really. I used to look forward to Fridays and plan my night so I don't miss the show.

Friday isn't the same without Moonlight. :(

Again thanks for the poll Catherine as you can see we still love and miss our Moonlight.

I've heard about the Moonlight support in the past, but this is amazing that Twilight and True Blood are currently being left in the dust. I guess Moonlight's People's Choice Award last year was indeed given to the right show.

Moonlighter said...

Yes, Catherine, the People's Choice Award was justly rewarded--too bad the industry didn't pay attention to what "the people" really wanted...
Thanks for including Moonlight in your poll. It was and still is the best show in my opinion. Miss ya Mick, miss ya Beth, miss ya Josef!!

Moonlight is simply superb! It is humorous, romantic, clever and fresh! It was the best show on TV, and I can't imagine why it was cancelled. The cast is talented and gorgeous, and what a great storyline! I'm waiting for the DVDs on Jan. 20th!

annie said...

You are awesome for including Moonlight in your poll. There isn't much on tv right now that compares with it. Now if Jan. 20th would just hurry up and get here. I love Twilight too! Moonlight is my first love.

Ohhh, Moonlight! The best vampire show.... with the most wonderful vampire!!! Thanks for letting us express our love again.

My daughter took me to see Twilight, and I enjoyed the film -BUT as I left the theatre my only thought was, "That was OK... but if that had been a Moonlight Film I'd be High - and Howling right now!"
Twilight was just "missing something" for me that Moonlight provided... yer danged right I wanna get it back!

I, too, am one of those Moonlight fans who desperately miss Moonlight on Friday nights. Thanks for including it in your poll. I tried to like True Blood and couldn't, and I didn't really care for the Twilight books so I don't plan to see the movie. But I so miss Mick and Beth and Josef and the wonderful relationships on Moonlight. It's too bad CBS couldn't have given it another try with the explosion of vampire shows out right now.

So glad Moonlight is included in your poll. As you can see, we Moonlight fans miss not only the show, but the cast as well. It has brought so many fans together to form friendships in chats and fan forums. I have all the episodes on my iPod and watch them constantly. For me, Moonlight will forever be alive. I'm currently reading the Twilight series...however, Edward is no Mick St. John.

I totally voted for twilight, moonlight is just a knock off twilight anyways. it came out after twilight came out (book) and it has basically the same story line.

booo.

Catherine Karp said...

Before any fightin' words start flying, I just wanted to quickly state that the plot point of a human becoming involved with a vampire goes back centuries.

Silverchex said...

I'm glad you included Moonlight in your poll. I wish CBS would have had the sense to renew it.

Catherine, thanks for the comment you made after the rude comment made about Moonlight. I have loved the vampire genre my entire life - I have read and seen just about every paranormal romance with a vampire as the male lead - and Moonlight is the best. Nothing compares to Moonlight and the outstanding portrayal of Mick St. John by Alex O'Loughlin.

Thanks so much for including Moonlight in your poll. I was hooked by this show since the first minute of the first episode. I love the imaginative storylines and the talented and beautiful cast members. Alex O'Loughlin is magnificent, unique and unforgettable as Mick St John
For me Moonlight is the #1

Moonlight is and always will be my number 1, I was hooked on its intoxicating, mix of chemistry and amazing, stories and not forgetting the best, Vamp ever Mick/Alex and the most loved couple ever MickBeth, no other show will ever come close.

Moonlight is the best, most addictive show I've ever seen. It had the best ensemble cast and the best storyline. It was cut off before it even got to begin with the writers strike--if any show deserves a season two, it's MOONLIGHT!

All I can say is I have never loved or missed a show like I love and miss Moonlight, And I know im very lucky to have european dvd set which I treasure.

Thanks Catherine for including Moonlight in your poll. Reruns will be airing on the SciFi Channel starting January 23, 2009. Hope you all can tune in!

I am very glad to see that Moonlight is on this list! This show deserves to win every poll that has anything to do with the best of!!! And that includes best vampire show, best drama, sci-fi, comedy and romance! Moonlight has it ALL! I love this show and I always will...

Go Twilight!
I voted for twilight of course.
I like Moonlight too, but Twilight is so much better^^
Moonlight was named Twilight first, but they had to change the name because of the Twilight-Saga xD

I miss Moonlight so much. Thanks for including it in your poll although the show has been gone for many months while Twilight is still at the theatres. For me, it was so special that I actually planned my week around it, eagerly waiting for Friday night to see what Mick-Beth were going to be up to. I was never disappointed, and I was drawn in to the point they became part of my family.

I am a total Moonlight fan, never in my life, has a show prompted me to join forums, vote in polls, sign petitions, write letters and emails and because of all this have made so many great friends on different Moonlight boards. Will always love Moonlight, and will never stop fighting for its return.

tessy said...

I'm 100% with you, Seanad. I miss Moonlight so much. I vote in polls, sign petitions and write emails too. I can't wait until Moonlight rerun on SciFi. And I hope Moonlight return with a second season.

Glad to see I'm not the only one still pining for Moonlight. Thanks for including it in your poll. I enjoyed Twilight the movie and now I'm reading the first book. It's not Moonlight, but I like it.

While I enjoyed True Blood and Twilight, I adored Moonlight. Maybe if Eric had more scenes on True Blood it would have been a competition for me, but my vote went to Moonlight. I still miss it.

I too miss Moonlight very much. An article once described that as brooding vampire Mick St. John, Alex O’Loughlin injected equal parts hot and cool into his leading-man role. A flash of his smile could make even an undead pulse quicken.

I'm so glad Moonlight is still mentioned in the media.
Here is how the Moonlight addiction works. Ready?

First, you see the sexy male lead actor and think, "Hmmm... I should check this out."
Next, you watch your first episode and think, "Wow, he has A LOT of charisma and charm. And hey, there's not as much tacky vampire/monster shtick as I expected."
In the midst of this revelation, you see the sexy male lead interact with the sexy female lead and think, "Now that is hot! The electricity between these two practically jumps off the screen."
After that, you notice that the dialog is pretty witty and the cultural references are modern (iPods, paparazzi, etc.), instead of something your grandparents would have understood (although the flashbacks to the lead's earlier life as a human provide reference points for grandma).
All of a sudden, it dawns on you that they are doing new and different things with the vampire mythology. Interesting things that allow you to speculate for days about where they might go next with the storyline.
In a moment's reflection, you realize this show has it all: drama, romance, puzzle-solving plots, action, fantasy and history. No wonder you can't wait until the next episode!
Next thing you know, you are addicted to Moonlight.

Moonlight is the best vampire show, very addictive I might add. It caught my attention like no other show can and I am not a typical sci fi and vampire fan. The show has the unique “look” , very hip and cool. I sat down to watch because LA had never looked so good and the intense chemistry between the main characters, Mick and Beth, jumped beyond my television screen. The main cast sizzled on screen!

I thought I was alone in my addiction to this show Moonlight last year but found there are many many more of us out there.

I am 39, female, Application Developer, and before this show I have never emailed, called about a program, Blogged, had a myspace account, or watched a You Tube Video. I have 3 kids 15, 13, and 9 who watch with me.

I did all these things because of my love of Moonlight. I found on the Moonlight forums that this is a similar story for a great many of the shows viewers. Catherine, thank you for mentioning about Moonlight on your site.

One more thing, the DVD will come out on January 20 and SCI-FI will air reruns starting January 23.
