The publicity folks at Sourcebooks have graciously offered two copies of bestselling author Amanda Grange's new novel, Mr. Darcy, Vampyre. Grange's tale is the latest release in the surprising trend of novels that blend Jane Austen's world with the undead. According to the author, this particular tale was inspired years ago by Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Elizabeth Bennett/Mr. Darcy dynamics. Be sure to view the book trailer below to get a taste of the novel's flavor.
Here are the contest's rules:
1. Winners must be from the U.S. and Canada only due to shipping costs.
2. To enter, in the comments section, offer your own suggestion for a fictional character/historical figure who should appear in his or her own vampire novel (actual upcoming novel titles include Pinocchio: Vampire Slayer, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and Shakespeare Undead).
The deadline: Tuesday, September 1, 8:00 AM Pacific Time.
I'll pull two names, raffle-style, and forward the winners' addresses to Sourcebooks. Good luck!

I could see Howard Hughes as a vampire...except he is dead...well maybe that works afterall
i have got it! Geronimo or billy bowleggs!
that would be some bad payback right there ;)

would like to win this..thank you
oh wow, this is crazy. I think that Simba from the Lion King should be a vampire lion. That would be kind of cool.
Or maybe one of the Disney princesses' or something like Cinderella or Belle.

I'm thinking Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights. :-)

Good question. I would love to see Dorian Grey and vampires together. That might be really interesting!
Thanks for hosting such a great contest. I would love to win this!

I LOVE the responses so far. Very clever and amusing. As you can see from the real upcoming novels, anything goes right now with the fictional worlds of the undead.
makeart: I was excited to see your Heathcliff suggestion. A while back I was featuring TwiRock bands, and I said if I were to start a literary tribute band, I'd probably honor the Bronte sisters by starting up the Mr. Rock-chesters or the I Am Heathcliffs (Mr. Rock-chester post.
Beatrice, the title character in Rappaccini's Daughter.
I want to see Anne from Anne of Green Gables as a vampire. She's so perky all the time--it would be interesting to see how that would play out.
I love this contest! What a great idea!

Sherlock Holmes or Dr Watson, or both!

How about Jayne Eyre, werewolf, or Nancy Drew; demon detective?
I ditto Kate's suggestion: Dorian Grey would be cool.

I think Sleeping Beauty could be a vampire. I mean...after all she did sleep like the dead until prince charming "kissed" her. So either prince charming could be a vampire...or sleeping beauty was a vampire and just did that thing they do when she sleep away a century or so. And mr. charming was just a convenient blood donor.

I like the Dorian Grey idea and Sleeping Beauty; both lend themselves to the image quite easily. I would add Voltaire for the simple fact that he was rather eccentric from what I understand and seemed to hold wisdom beyond his years. It would be interesting to have a vampire coining various phrases concerning human freedoms; and indirectly help himself get lunch easier as well.
For now in regards to the entry I will stick with Demzon and an email of Demzon13 at gmail period com
(hope this doesn't duplicate as some odd things happened just a few minutes ago when last I tried to post)
I'm highly amused by the perky character suggestions. Dorian Gray is also fascinating. They're all good.
My own suggestion? It's not a vampire, but I'd be entertained by Ebenezer Scrooge: Ghost Hunter.
I think Mr Rochester and his first wife from "Jane Eyre" would make nice vampires.

Snow White was already made into a vampire for "Red as Snow" by Tanith Lee.
Told a friend about this and her first, instant suggestion--Peter Rabbit!
As far as "Wuthering Heights" goes, I'd think that Cathy would be the more obvious choice.
Peter Rabbit is mischievous enough to run into a vampire, although it would make me think twice about putting Peter Rabbit decorations in my kids' rooms. There is a children's story called Bunnicula about a vampire bunny.
I could see either Mr. Rochester's first wife, Bertha, or Cathy from Wuthering Heights as vampires. Some of those Gothic females are wild enough for a little bloodsucking.
How about Cinderella as a vampire hunter and her stepmother as the queen of the vampires that must be destroyed before she can convert her ultimate target - Prince Charming.

I probably shouldn't say this one, because I might want to write this myself one day, but I would like to see Medea, of Jason and Medea fame, as a vampire. She's such a wonderful character already, both sympathetic and monstrous, that the vampirism would just add one more element to her personality.
The fairytale princesses are seeming to be a popular choice.
Kimberly B.: Medea would be a really interesting vampire. Definitely try that one out yourself if the mood suits you. I'm half-tempted to try out my ghost-hunting Scrooge idea.
I think Ebenezer Scrooge is hiding some vampire tendencies...

Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, I could see him as a vampire with blood lust.
shannon@justanothermusing.com
Dorian Grey is a very interesting choice! I agree with the other ladies on this. I actually did a paper in college comparing Dorian to the Frankenstein monster and got an A+, so if I can make that comparison then I can vamp him too.

If you're gonna go for faerie tales (note the pretentious spelling), the most obvious vampire imho is "The Beauty and the Beast."
The Joker and/or Harley Quinn would make great vampires.
Peter Pan is kinda an obvious choice, huh?
Hamlet? Or maybe Ophelia?
I think Dr. Zhivago would be a good one.
wandanamgreb (at) gmail (dot) com
My first thought was Hamlet but I can see that has already been said. So maybe Robert Langdon from the Dan Brown books gets turned by an ancient vampire while on one of his "save the world" missions - how fun would that be? For a historical person I like Hunter S. Thompson as a vampire (he is historical now because he died a couple of years ago).
I am totally going to have to skip reading the other comments so I am not influenced ;-)
How about JFK? Maybe that would explain all of his supposed nocturnal activities?
Or Thomas Jefferson -- he was bold and brilliant and accomplished way more than a human should be able to -- also supposed to have been quite the ladies man.
This is a totally fun contest!
Thanks!
~bella
I just thought of another. How about The Count of Monte Cristo or The Three Musketeers or even Robin Hood?

So glad everyone's enjoying the contest. I'd also like to throw Little Orphan Annie into the hat. Check out the original comics--the girl had no irises!

NOW THIS is a fun contest!!! I'm really enjoying the other posters' ideas and trying not to be influenced, but there sure are some good ideas on the board :)
Okay, let's see...the Pillsbury Doughboy (nah, just kidding). How about RIP VAN WINKLE?!
Oooh - little Orphan Annie would make a PERFECTLY GRUESOME vampire kid lol now I am officially creeped out
I am totally stuck on the idea of Sleeping Beauty. The evil witch could stay, as would the fairies. Sleeping Beauty could become undead and seek her revenge.

Captain Kirk, a Star Trek vampire!
