Off to New York. . . and The Vampires of New York

Tomorrow morning at the crack of dawn I'm heading to New York City for the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators winter conference. Therefore, I won't be reading any emails or comments until sometime on Monday. When I'm over my jet lag, I'll share some of my notes for writers of paranormal and fantasy fiction. I'm thrilled to pieces to get this chance to go!

Because I won't have time to post a Music Monday next week, I'll go ahead and share someone's animated take on Marcy Playground's "The Vampires of New York":

Music Monday: VAMPIRE BRIDE by FreddeGredde

Today's featured song is "Vampire Bride" by FreddeGredde, which I discovered over at Vampire.com. I was highly impressed by his music and video, even though the independent Swedish musician humbly said on his YouTube site, "My first attempt to make a traditional music video. Most likely my last one as well." If you enjoy his music, head over to FreddeGredde.com for more samples and to give him a donation for his work. You can download "Vampire Bride" at speedyshare.com and last.fm.

Vampire tidbits

Here's a potpourri of vampire news I've recently received.

I found the first item through VampireFaust on Twitter: Enter the code VAMPBLOG in the checkout cart at WickedWinesOnline.com to get 10% off ANY PURCHASE on Wicked Wines/Vampire.com. Spread the word!! I'm not sure how long the promotion will last, so you may need to act soon.

Speaking of vampire merchandise, Valentine's Day will be arriving soon. If you sell romantic vampire items through your website, please send your URL to catkarp [at] gmail [dot] come, and I'll include your info in a future post about vampire gifts for Valentine's.  If you need to buy a gift right away, the HBO store sells a line of True Blood jewelry that might be perfect for your loved one's tender neck:

Jewelry Inspired by True Blood HBO Original Series

RhinehothLast, but not least, I've been asked to spread the word about the vampire novel Rhinehoth by Brian E. Niskala, which tells the story of a captive vampire prince in the mountains of Germany's Black Forest.  You can become a fan at the novel's Facebook page and watch the book trailer right here:

I'm getting ready for next week's Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators conference in New York, so I'll still be going light on the blogging.  Take care!

Last week's deleted BONE CHILLING post, redux

Apparently, a drawback of running two blogs is that you sometimes create a post at the wrong one. Last week, I thought I was updating my writing blog, but the post about my young adult fiction work in progress showed up here. I deleted the post and moved it, but I just realized I didn't get rid of it before an incomplete version got archived at HorrorBlips (where two people have voted it up, despite its current incomplete status). I'll go ahead and repost it here in case anyone was wondering why the title "Bone Chilling" led to an empty link:

I discovered I have a highly valuable resource in my house in terms of my current writing life: a ten-year-old daughter who has found a love of young adult fiction. Of course, she's always been highly valuable to me to begin with, but what a handy thing to have one's target audience living under your roof!

I'll be applying for a writing grant next month and need to settle on my working title for the application. I realized I should run my potential titles by my daughter, and her favorite is one I haven't yet mentioned on the blog.

BONE CHILLING

I like the title, too, so I plan to use it.

Speaking of bone chilling, I'm including one of the many propaganda posters used in WWI America (my setting) to get U.S. citizens to buy Liberty Bonds, which helped fund the war. It's an especially unsettling image considering our more recent history.

Bone Chilling is a ghostly young adult historical fantasy. For updates, please visit CatherineKarp.com, http://twitter.com/catherinekarp, or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Catherine-Karp/223624662612.

Music Monday: LOVE ME DEAD by Ludo

Love Me DeadToday's Music Monday feature, Ludo's "Love Me Dead," is not only an enjoyably twisted song, but it has an entertaining video in which lead singer Andrew Volpe takes Buddy Holly/Weezer nerdy coolness and gives it a darkly humorous spin.  The song is from the St. Louis, Missouri, band's 2008 album, You're Awful, I Love You.  Enjoy!

Music Monday (on Sunday): Daybreakers soundtrack

I have a little more time to set up a Music Monday today instead of tomorrow, and with the release of Daybreakers over the weekend, it seemed fitting to spotlight the vampire thriller's soundtrack. I'm including a video of Placebo's rendition of "Running Up That Hill," featured in the Daybreakers trailer (it was originally a Kate Bush song). Below the video, you can click on the album cover and head straight to the soundtrack's Amazon page, which lists all of composer Christopher Gordon's songs from the film.

Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Undead news

I'm still not blogging much this month, but I absolutely need to spread the latest word about a vampire indie film I've been looking forward to since 2008: Jordan Galland's Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Undead. DreadCentral.com posted the following good news about the movie's future in theaters:

"Jordan Galland's horror comedy Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Undead has been picked up for distro by Indican Pictures and is set for a limited theatrical run on April 16th, 2010."

I've shared the movie's trailers a few times before, but it doesn't hurt to post one again to help generate more buzz for the upcoming release...

Thanks to Amazon.com for originally giving me the idea by running their Best Book Cover of 2009 contest. Their contest didn't include any vampire nominees, but their ultimate winner at least involved the undead in the form of zombies:
