Lost Boys 3, Bloodlines, and other news

I'm still on my restricted blogging schedule because of my own writing project, so news has been piling up in my inbox.  Here are some bits n' pieces of vampire info...

The Lost Boys 3 trailer is available!   Thanks to Vampire News, I learned ShockTillYouDrop.com shared the trailer for Lost Boys: The Thirst. The late Corey Haim isn't a part of the new film (which sounds like it will be a straight-to-DVD release), but both Frog brothers, Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander, are back!

Top-favorite ghost songs. I finished writing the first draft of my young adult historical ghost story, tentatively titled Blackbirds. To celebrate, I discussed my all-time favorite ghost songs at catherinekarp.com. Feel free to come over and let me know your personal favorites, and I may create a ghost music page over there like I've done for my Suburban Vampire Music Mondays.

CrushAmerican DVD release of Michael J. Saul's new feature film Crush. Crush is a four-part anthology exploring the multitude of emotions and colors in gay relationships, and it features "Bloodlines," the story of the obsessions of a teenager toward his vampire schoolmate. The DVD comes out July 20, and it can be pre-ordered at sites like Amazon.

Twilight Saga: Eclipse vs True Blood poll is still running. You have until June 13 to have your say in which June mega-vampire release is the most hotly anticipated (see my sidebar for the poll). You can also discuss the issue at my original post.

Vampyre Kisses by Elizabeth J. Kolodziej. I received a press release for this new tale of vampires, werewolves, and witches, now available at strategicpublishinggroup.com. According to the publisher's website, "Enormous changes take place in the vampire and werewolf worlds after a final battle determines the fate of the supernatural." The Vampyre Kisses Amazon page.

That's it for now. I'll probably skip this week's Music Monday because of the Memorial Day holiday, but be sure to come back for some fabulous interviews in June.

Music Monday: Fresh Blood and True Blood Music--Volume 2

True Blood: Music From The HBO Original Series Volume 2I just kicked off an Eclipse vs True Blood poll, so to be fair to both choices, this week I'm featuring the newest True Blood soundtrack (last week I spotlighted music from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse).  True Blood: Music From The HBO Original Series Volume 2 is making its debut today and features songs from the likes of Beck, Lucinda Williams, Elvis Costello, Jace Everett, and Bob Dylan. I'm including a video for Track 11: "Fresh Blood" by Eels.  Download options are available below.

Music Monday will arrive on Tuesday

I'm putting off my Vampire Music Monday by a day so I can highlight an album that comes out tomorrow.  I'm hoping the delay will allow me to share some audio clips.  Check back tomorrow...

A plug for Suburban Vampire's sister's custom jewelry

My sister just set up an Etsy store for her chain mail jewelry called Chainmaille Creations by Carrie. She's made me gorgeous black chokers and earrings before, so she can certainly cater to the vampire crowd. If you don't see an item that suits your needs, you can try her request for a custom item option.

She also has a Facebook site for her creations called RingsWings MysticalThings.

Way to go, sis!

True Blood vs The Twilight Saga: Eclipse -- Two major June vampire releases duke it out

Both vampire mega-hits are coming our way in June; both have new posters (see below). Now it's time to see which one is the most hotly anticipated summer attraction: the third season of True Blood (coming to HBO June 13) or The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (coming to theaters June 30).

Cast your vote in my poll in the sidebar, which will be up and running until the True Blood season opener on June 13 at 9:00 PM Eastern Time. May the best vamps (and werewolves and whatever else gets tossed in) win.

Let Me In, Vampire Empire, & other upcoming vamps

I've been receiving news about vampire entertainment arriving in the distant and not-so-distant future. . .

Let Me In

The poster is now available, photos are showing up, and news is circulating about the American remake of the Swedish film Let the Right One In, based on the novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist. I've read the novel and seen the original film (you can read my review of the movie here), so I'm not sure how I feel about a U.S. version...although the cast is a strong one. The book is an interesting combination of coming-of-age tale and horror story with some gruesome scenes that didn't appear in the Swedish movie adaptation. I have a feeling, being a Hammer film, Let Me In might go further with the horror, but I hope they don't lose the heart of the story, which involves a picked-on kid and his outsider friend.

Do yourself a favor and click on the following covers to check out the novel and award-winning Swedish version before seeing how Hollywood handles the pre-teen vampire tale.

DUSK: A Vampire's Tale

Coming this summer to a Facebook account near you--DUSK, a vampire game that "allows the vampire-player to fully interact with the world of humans in addition to their own kind."

The run-down: In the world of DUSK, vampires and humans now interact freely due to an international treaty guaranteeing that vampires won’t involuntarily turn or harm humans, and in return, humans will not hunt vampires. And, due to advanced gene therapy developed by vampire scientists, they no longer are prevented from being in daylight. For more info, head to www.dusk-game.com.

The Greyfriar (Vampire Empire, Book 1)Vampire Empire: The Greyfriar (Book 1)

Clay & Susan Griffith's new trilogy, coming this November, starts with The Greyfriar, a story "of high adventure and alternate history. Combining rousing pulp action with steampunk style, Vampire Empire brings epic political themes to life within a story of heartbreaking romance, sacrifice, and heroism." Stay tuned for a guest post and giveaways as the release date approaches. clayandsusangriffith.blogspot.com.

I'm still planning to spend most of May as a writing hermit, but I'm working on contests and interviews for June, including a chat with Karin Harlow, author of Enemy Lover.  Be sure to check back.

Music Monday: THE RECLUSE

The RecluseA recent contest winner requested that I share the vampire music video for "The Recluse" by Cursive, from their album The Ugly Organ. The indie rock band hails from Omaha, Nebraska, and their video for "The Recluse" was directed by Mike Malone. A warning: the song contains some PG language.

May and June at Suburban Vampire

I'm heading into the suburban bat cave for most of May so I can finish the rough draft of my novel-in-progress, get ready for a conference, and apply for a writing fellowship. Music Mondays and occasional updates will continue, but I'm not running any interviews and contests at the moment.

If you're interested in scheduling a June/July interview or guest post, be sure to check out my submission page for guidelines and contact info.

Summer will bring True Blood's third season, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Undead, new novels, Comic-Con, and Vampire-Con. I'll finish up my spring cleaning and get set to blog about those hot vampire months.

Vampire Wire's Marta Acosta's upcoming release

Marta Acosta, the mastermind behind Vampire Wire and the author of the Casa Dracula Series, announced today that she has a new book coming out May 18: Nancy's Theory of Style, written under the name Grace Coopersmith.

Here are some of the early reviews for her newest endeavor:

"Nancy’s Theory of Style is a fiercely fun and witty contemporary love story nestled in one of San Francisco’s trendiest neighborhoods, Pacific Heights... This heartwarming and romantic story will have readers pacing in their Prada’s to see what happens next." Nob Hill Gazette

"Nancy's Theory of Style is chick-lit with brains, manners, zest and know-how."  Leah Garchik, San Francisco Chronicle

Marta is also currently offering a free version of her young adult gothic vampire novel, The Shadow Girl of Birch Grove.  Vampire Wire has been a fabulous source for vampire news for years and Marta/Grace is a great gal.  Don't miss out on her smart and entertaining books.
