"In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet--or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy...until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Brouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.
Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.
Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth's ne'er-do-well brother, Roger Collins (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger's precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David's new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote."

Hugely looking forward to this. Like how they seem to have streamlined what was about forty hours worth of stuff from the original series.
I was wondering how a five-year series was going to get boiled down to a two-hour movie. Now I need to catch some of the original episodes before I see Burton's version.
Yes, I will be looking forward to this movie. It has been a long time since I had watched the original on TV. It was the only soap, and my favorite show. I think it was how I got into vampires back when I was a teen.
I can't wait to see this. I mean, I love Tim Burton's movies. =)
I loved this show when I was a kid [I am dating myself]. I loved Angelique and Barnabas, and I am sure Johnny Depp will do a fabulous job of recreating the role of Barnabas Collins.
I was born just as the show went off the air, and I never caught it in reruns like other 60s shows. Everyone who was around to enjoy it says they loved it, so I'll have to check out some episodes before the movie debuts.
For those that missed the original TV series, you can watch a lot of the episodes on Netflix. It's available on DVD and streaming. It's missing the very beginning but starts where Willie Loomis opens up Barnabas' coffin and he comes back to Collinsport. Everything from the music to the wonderful character stage actors bring back such fond memories of this gothic fantasy. Good fun to watch all over again too!
