WE ARE THE NIGHT: Glamorous Vampires, German Style

IFC Films is bringing the 2010 German vampire film We Are the Night to U.S. theaters this month.

From ifcfilms.com:

Dennis Gansel, director of the critically acclaimed The Wave, explores a seething dark side of Berlin in We Are the Night. Following a sect of seductive female vampires that hide out in the city's alternative clubs, enjoying the luxury and pleasures their attained immortality provides them and wreaking horror on a string of unsuspecting victims, the film is a brilliantly stylized vision of the classic vampire myth—a sensual, charismatic thrill ride fascinated with all aspects of the night.

DARK SHADOWS Plot Revealed

Warner Brothers has revealed the storyline for Tim Burton's movie adaptation of the 1960s gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows:

"In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet--or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy...until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Brouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.

Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.

Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth's ne'er-do-well brother, Roger Collins (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger's precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David's new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote."

Friday the 13th: PRIEST Release Day

Happy Friday the 13th! Appropriately enough, today marks the theatrical release of a new vampire film: Priest, starring Paul Bettany, Maggie Q, and Cam Gigandet. I'm attaching a featurette, a clip, and the trailer so you can get a taste of the movie's post-apocalyptic sci-fi vampires and the wayward priest who hunts them down (in 3-D, no less).

The DARK SHADOWS Cast

Thomas McDonell, Young Barnabas
The Tim Burton movie adaptation of the gothic 1960s soap opera, Dark Shadows, has been on my list of Upcoming Vampire Movies/Series since I first started the catalog in 2008.  The film is finally underway, and I'm excited to see what happens when you combine Burton, a popular sixties soap, and the writer of best-selling mashups such as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Also highly intriguing is the cast they've assembled for the project, including a young vampire movie veteran. Here's the latest Dark Shadows list from IMDB.com:

Johnny Depp: Barnabas Collins
Helena Bonham Carter: Dr. Julia Hoffman (rumored)
Chloe Moretz: Carolyn Stoddard (Moretz played the young vampire in 2010's Let Me In)
Michelle Pfeiffer: Elizabeth Collins Stoddard
Eva Green: Angelique Bouchard
Thomas McDonell: Young Barnabas Collins (McDonell currently appears in the Disney movie Prom—which is not a vampire film)
Jackie Earle Haley: Willie Loomis
Bella Heathcote: Victoria Winters
Gulliver McGrath: David Collins

THE ORDER OF THE BLOOD by Nicole Vlachos and Lane Morris

My apologies for not being able to offer author interviews at the moment, but my own writing life has been needing more TLC than what I've been giving it.  I'm still happy to spread the news about new vampire releases, such as Nicole Vlachos and Lane Morris's The Order of the Blood, available from Black Bed Sheet Books (a very cool publishing company name, I might add).

The Order of the Blood Synopsis:

Once, vampires of the Order of the Blood were revered and respected, but a change in political tides and waves of genocide forced them into hiding. Now, split into two factions with very different means to the end of regaining their freedoms, the brothers of the Order face a resurgence of public fear and hatred. A newly turned vampire, Ian, finds himself torn between sides. Interested only in saving his mortal love, Robin, from the bewitching spell of an older, much-more-powerful leader of an underground rebellion, Gideon, Ian must choose between protecting Robin or betraying those of his kind. Though Gideon claims to love her, too, how far will he go to protect the fragile beginnings of his new world order? And with the membership of of their brotherhood divided, who will be powerful enough to stop him?

Music Monday: Stevie Nicks's Brand-New Twilight- & Poe-Inspired Songs

Tomorrow, May 3, marks the release of In Your Dreams, music legend Stevie Nicks's first album of new releases since 2001's Trouble in Shangri-La.

Nicks said, "I had written a song in Brisbane, Australia, when I was on tour with Fleetwood Mac in 2009 called 'Moonlight - A Vampire's Dream,' which was inspired by the New Moon film. When I finished writing that song, which came together really quickly, I knew the time was right to start recording." "Moonlight" indeed appears on In Your Dreams, as well as a musical version of Edgar Allan Poe's classic poem "Annabel Lee." Nicks definitely got her Goth on for this album.
