Summer Hiatus

I'm officially in awe of authors who can balance both writing careers and interactive blogs that feature daily interviews, contests, and other goodies for readers. As I'm prepping for the 2013 release of In the Shadow of Blackbirds, as well as writing my next novel and raising my two kids, I'm finding myself getting buried beneath my multiple duties. I need to take a break from this site.

I won't be running any new posts. I'll reemerge again in time for Halloween to say hello (and to share my cover art when that's available), but I'm sorry to say this will be the last calendar year I'll be running Suburban Vampire.

I started the site nearly 5 1/2 years ago when I was trying to sell a vampire novel set in the suburbs. That particular book never found a publishing home, but my lifelong dream of getting one of my books into print came true this past fall when I sold my YA ghost tale to Amulet Books. I'm thrilled beyond words to be bringing this novel into the world through that particular publisher, and I need to devote a larger percentage of my time to this brand-new adventure.

I'll definitely keep the site live so the archives can be perused, and I'll more than likely keep my Upcoming Vampire Movies & Series page up-to-date.

Thank you so much for following me over the years.

June 12, 2012 update: I'll still be blogging over the summer at my writing website, catwinters.com, and this September I'm launching a brand-new website with other authors of YA and middle-grade historical fiction. More info on that project to follow.

Completely understand needing to take a break and focusing on just the writing. As a mom of five I am constantly working. I think without the social media though I would go completely bonkers, more than I am already!

Wow--five kids and a writing career! You have my full respect and awe, Michelle! I just have two kids, and they keep me plenty busy, especially in the summer.

You're right about the social media helping with sanity! I don't know what I'd do without that interaction with other writers and readers.

I forgot to mention in my post that I'll still be blogging over the summer at my writing site, www.catwinters.com, plus I'm launching a group blog for authors of YA and middle-grade historical fiction in September. And I'm blogging now and then at http://thelucky13s.blogspot.com. I think that's it. Definitely enough to keep me busy amid edits and everything else!

I would be interested in hearing more about the historical fiction blog. My debut historical, THE BALLAD OF JESSIE PEARL is forthcoming in the winter of 2013. http://www.shannonhitchcock.com

Shannon: I'm still ironing out details about the historical fiction blog. If you send me your email address at catwintersbooks AT gmail.com, I can get back to you when I have more info.

I'm still blogging at http://catwinters.com and http://corsetsandcutlasses.wordpress.com. I'm just not doing daily posts with interviews like I used to on here.
