THE MOTH DIARIES Trailer

IFC Films has just released the official trailer for The Moth Diaries, a new thriller coming to theaters in limited release April 20, 2012. Here's the synopsis:

Acclaimed director Mary Harron (AMERICAN PSYCHO, THE NOTORIOUS BETTIE PAGE) returns with the chilling story of Rebecca (Sarah Bolger), a young girl who, haunted by her father’s suicide, enrolls in an elite boarding school for girls. Before long, Rebecca’s friendship with the popular Lucy (Sarah Gadon) is shattered by the arrival of a dark and mysterious new student named Ernessa (Lily Cole). Lucy falls under Ernessa’s spell and becomes emotionally and physically consumed by her glamorous new friend. Rebecca, whose overtures of concern are rejected by Lucy, finds herself lost and confused. She begins to develop a crush on her handsome English teacher, Mr. Davies (Scott Speedman), and immerses herself in the Gothic vampire novel CARMILLA for his class. Rebecca starts to suspect that Ernessa is a vampire, but, despite the suspicious deaths that begin to occur, her fears are treated as simple girlish jealousy.

As the bodies of young girls pile up and the line between reality and the supernatural starts to blur, Rebecca decides to take matters into her own hands and get rid of Ernessa. Who can say what is real and what is unreal to the heart consumed by passion and a mind afire with loss? Based on the bestselling novel by Rachel Klein, THE MOTH DIARIES is a harrowing story of the anxieties, lusts and fears of adolescence.

The Tim Burton Vampire Movie Poll Results

Tim Burton is tackling the world of vampires in full force in 2012. He's directing Dark Shadows, coming May 11, and producing the film adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, out June 22.

For the past month, I've asked in a poll in the sidebar, "Which Tim Burton vampire movie are you most excited about seeing?"

Here are the results:

Interestingly, only one of the films has offered us a teaser trailer as of this writing—Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter—even though it's the movie with a later release date. Is the secrecy surrounding Dark Shadows helping with its allure? Or is everyone just more excited about seeing Johnny Depp sinking his teeth into a classic vampire series than witnessing Honest Abe whacking the undead with an ax?

A couple more goodies from both films:

Johnny Depp and Eva Green in Dark Shadows

Chris Stone, writer/director of the Gothic Victorian online series Blood and Bone China, has just released The Vampire of the Villas, a spellbinding documentary about the real-life inspiration behind his fictional vampire tale. Blood and Bone China takes place in Stoke-on-Trent, England, the setting for a bizarre vampire-related death in 1972. With the help of local researchers and the police constable in charge of investigating the forty-year-old case, Stone has created a gripping portrayal of the potentially deadly dangers of fear.

Here's The Vampire of the Villas in its entirety. Enjoy.

In case you missed Blood and Bone China when it first aired last year, here's Chapter One. All twelve episodes can be viewed at BloodandBoneChina.com.

TITLE: Heretic

AUTHOR: Miguel Conner

FORMAT: Book

GENRE: Science Fiction

SYNOPSIS:
THE STUNNING SEQUEL TO STARGAZER/THE QUEEN OF DARKNESS

The Stargazer capital Xanadu has been destroyed. The immortal ruler of vampires, The MoonQueen, has been vanquished. Humanity has been liberated after a brutal revolution. The source of all of this is the dark heroism of Byron Solsbury, prophesized Liberator and Stargazer Heretic.

Now comes the difficult part.

Accompanied by his ally Proxos and soul mate, Medea, Byron will risk radioactive wastelands and its horrors in a quest to infiltrate New Atlantis, the last remaining Stargazer city. The reasons are twofold: to find the cure for the Killer of Giants—the only disease harmful to vampires—that has mortally infected Medea; and to oversee the destruction of the metropolis and end the Stargazer Empire once and for all.

Within this high-tech structure, Byron will encounter the dreaded Forgotten-vampires that were never human to begin with, as well as their godly allies. It will take all of his skills to counter their razor agendas. Eventually he must face the ruler of New Atlantis—the greatest Stargazer who ever walked Heaven and Earth—and realize that their grim destinies have been intertwined since before the rise of the vampires.

He is known as The Prince of Shadows or simply The Centurion. And he once drank the blood of a god incarnate on Earth, and gained the powers of infinity.

As fate unravels before him like a bloody tapestry, Byron Solsbury will realize that not only Earth hangs in the balance…but reality itself.

Happy Release Day to THE WOMAN IN BLACK

No vampires appear in The Woman in Black (at least not in the version I'm familiar withthe novel by Susan Hill), but the chilling ghost story was made specifically for those of us who enjoy a good jump-out-of-your-skin scare.

Here's the plotline of the movie adaptation, which opens today here in the U.S.:

Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe), a widowed lawyer whose grief has put his career in jeopardy, is sent to a remote village to sort out the affairs of a recently deceased eccentric. But upon his arrival, it soon becomes clear that everyone in the town is keeping a deadly secret. Although the townspeople try to keep Kipps from learning their tragic history, he soon discovers that the house belonging to his client is haunted by the ghost of a woman who is determined to find someone and something she lost… and no one, not even the children, are safe from her vengeance.

And the trailer...

I'm hoping to talk my husband (who's not as much of a ghost movie fan as I am) into seeing the film with me. Otherwise, I'll be venturing into the theater on my own and watching for vengeful Victorian ghosts out of the corner of my eye.
